US 1 Lane Shift and Traffic Change Near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

U.S. Highway 1 (Federal Highway) northbound lanes north of Griffin Road will shift slightly to the east in early October. Shortly afterwards, U.S. 1 southbound lanes will also shift to the east. All three lanes in each direction will remain open. The speed limit will change from 50 miles-per-hour to 40 miles-per-hour.

The lane shift is due to the construction of the structures over U.S. 1 for the expanded South Runway at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport. Traffic is scheduled to shift back to the newly aligned U.S. 1 in June 2013.

In related traffic changes, 10th Street will also open to traffic in early October from U.S. 1 east to Southeast Seventh Avenue. Presently, 10th Street ends at Taylor Road. Taylor Road will close permanently. These traffic changes are also due to the construction of the South Runway.
